Chapter 4: The new age of microblogging

Just over ten years ago, journalism was constituted to those in the newspaper, television and print industry. Online journalism was in its infancy and most Americans got there news from the latter outlets.

Today, instead of picking up a morning paper or turning on the local news, a resounding number of Americans wake up with a cup of coffee and their Facebook news feeds and Twitter timelines. News outlets, like USA Today, CNN and Fox News all share content using Facebook and Twitter to reach a wider audience.

Social media also allows anyone to tell a story and report on an event using video, photos and text. Here is a prime example of this modern reporting:

Another video shows Daniel Morales using Twitter to find his long lost daughter, after being separated for 11 years. Just another example of how Twitter connects people worldwide.
