Briggs Chapter 9: Being Creative

March 22nd, 2012 · No Comments · Briggs, Comm 361, Pat Carroll

As a journalist, you’re main goal should be to inform people with accurate information in a quick and efficient way. But not only do you want to be fast, but you want to be flashy to set yourself apart from other news outlets.

Here are some ways to give your content more style and originality:

  1. Titles- Make sure your titles are creative, grip the reader and make them want to read your article, which should be a major concern of yours.
  2. Visuals- Use photography, asthetically-pleasing graphics and videos to draw your audience in and keep them entertained.
  3. Social media- Allow your readers to interact with you through social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, along with feedback options.

Below is a video with David McCandless talking about the use of data visualization to show information in more creative ways.
